Case Study: Atula Technologies helps turn delivery company digital with bespoke software
Distribution Resourcing Services is a Buckinghamshire-based third-party logistics (3 PL) service to specialist furniture companies, serving as their distribution warehousing and fulfilment partner for B2C and home deliveries nationwide in the UK. Distribution Resourcing Services brought Atula Technologies in to build a new fleet managing software to speed up their delivery process and staff productivity – which in turn reduced the cost of operations and petrol.
To transform the process at Distribution Resourcing Services from manual to digital, Atula Technologies produced a Digital Proof of Delivery (DPOD) as a scalable Fleet Management solution, with complete visibility, automation and control.
The software has enabled Distribution Resourcing Services with a data-driven and efficient fleet management service. A secure Web Admin Console digitises end-to-end services from stocking orders at their warehouse (using barcodes) and the cross-dock, pick, pack, dispatch and delivery of consumer B2C orders nationwide – from Lands End to Edinburgh. Upon successful delivery of orders every day, the DRS Drivers or their assistants take photographs of the delivered/assembled items with ‘sign-on-glass’ options for customers to give PODs (Proof of Delivery). The DPOD system also handles exceptions of failed deliveries and making re-attempts for various scenarios while fully enabling ‘customer self-service’ for choosing their preferred date of home delivery for their orders.
The Fleet Management web-admin console allows the set-up of post-codes and the grouping of them into zones. It can also perform vehicle checks before starting delivery runs, aid in capacity planning, allocate drivers to vans, schedule delivery rounds and assign orders to drivers with real-time data feeds to and from the intuitive mobile driver app.
Atula Technologies has also integrated the warehouse into DPOD. Bar codes for delivery items received from partners are scanned in at the warehouse. DPOD has an in-built goods in check sheet and a picking sheet for the warehouse staff to pick items according to the delivery round.
By employing Atula Technologies to develop the Fleet Management software, Distribution Resourcing Services own the software and do not have to pay for a license or subscription fee. The application can also grow with the business, providing significant improvements in staff efficiency and productivity. Meanwhile, switching to a digital process has saved the company money on fuel, print, paper and communications – in turn reducing its carbon footprint. From receiving an order to delivery, the process is now tracked through real-time updates with automatic status notifications.
Atula Technologies was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. It is a full-service digital agency that also specialises in creating bespoke software solutions. The company prides itself on the ability to transform businesses’ online presence, while also enabling businesses with advanced software to accelerate productivity.
