The Reed Foundation donates £10,000 to The Children’s Trust
The Reed Foundation has donated £10,000 to The Children’s Trust, the Surrey-based charity that helps children with brain injury, which delivers rehabilitation, education and community services across the UK.
The Reed Foundation, part of the Reed Group, is donating £10,000 every week, for a year, to support 52 different charities, chosen by its employees. This means that by April 2025, The Reed Foundation will have donated an incredible £520,000. The initiative is a celebration of Reed’s 65th year of business and its founder, Sir Alec’s 90th birthday.
Every week, a Reed employee is drawn randomly to nominate a charity of their choice to receive the incredible donation. This time around, it was Freya Mean – a recruitment consultant based in Reed’s Crawley office, who opted to support one of the UK’s leading children’s charities.
Speaking about her reasons for nominating the local charity, Freya says: “The Children’s Trust is really close to my family, as my nan spent 19 years working there as a hospital play specialist – working with therapists and the children to enhance their abilities through play.
“Through her, I know all the work, care and effort the charity and its staff put in to help children suffering from brain injuries.”
The Children’s Trust gives children and young people with brain injury and neurodisability the opportunity to live the best life possible, by providing specialist services. Part of the Trust includes its school, which provides a unique setting for children and young people with a wide range of special needs and complex education health, therapy and care requirements. In partnership with parents, The Children’s Trust aims to enrich a child’s quality of life, by promoting their intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.
Michelle Martin, Director of Fundraising and Communications at The Children’s Trust, says: “We are incredibly grateful for the donation from Reed, and touched that it came from a member of staff with such a lovely connection to our charity.
“These vital funds will support children with brain injury and neurodisability, helping to fund a range of services from days out for families who have spent long periods of time in hospital, to purchasing equipment for our rehabilitation centre or specialist school.”
Freya said she was extremely excited to be picked to donate to a charity of her choice. She said: “It’s such a great opportunity to be able to donate such a big amount, and I was really excited when I was first picked.
“My nan was also really happy when I told her the news. She still keeps in contact with the families she helped as a play specialist at the trust, and still gets cards from them – even after retiring, so it means a lot to her that such a big donation will help them even more.”
