As research reveals that small scale wildflower planting can support 111% more bumblebees than non-wildflower beds, local housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes is encouraging residents in Haywards Heath to sow mini meadows in their own gardens by distributing 30 build-your-own wildflower seed bomb kits from its Wychwood Park development on Rocky Lane.[1]

Designed to be planted in residents’ gardens and shared green spaces, each kit contains the ingredients to make the seed bombs using peat free clay, wool and a selection of 22 native wildflower seeds. Once fully grown, the wildflowers will improve pollinating biodiversity in residents’ gardens by providing a food source for bees. 30 kits will be made available, which residents will be invited to reserve and collect from the Sales and Marketing Suite at Wychwood Park by emailing wychwoodparkbh@barratthomes.co.uk or wychwoodparkdwh@dwh.co.uk. The campaign forms part of a wider initiative in which over 380 kits will be made available across the South East and London.

Kimberley Benson, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: “As a responsible housebuilder, we want to protect local ecosystems, and by collectively introducing small sustainable initiatives such as community wildflower planting, we hope to make a valuable contribution towards supporting our urban wildlife. We look forward to seeing the community both at Wychwood Park and at our other participating developments coming together to rewild their gardens and create a safe home for native pollinators.”

A webinar with a horticultural expert will also be available to watch on the Barratt  David Wilson Homes YouTube channel, explaining how to make seed bombs at home, and the benefits of planting wildlife-friendly flora in the garden. Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties is encouraging all residents to share the progress of their mini meadows on social media using #BDWSeedbombs.

Wychwood Park already hosts multiple wildlife-friendly features, an RSPB gold-standard show garden that incorporates wildlife-friendly features such as bat and bird boxes, inclusion of native plants and hibernacula.

A selection of three and four-bedroom homes are available at Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties’ Wychwood Park development in Haywards Heath, with prices starting from £449,995 for a three-bedroom home.
