Pay boost for Priory health and social care workers

Hundreds of Support Workers working for Priory Adult Care will receive a pay rise this month as the organisation raises salaries in line with the Real Living Wage.

The uplift – to a minimum of £9.90 an hour – will be given to all Support Workers and healthcare assistants working in residential care homes, as well as services supporting older people, and ‘Supported Living’ services which help people live more independent lives.

It will put more into full-time workers’ pay packets, helping to ease cost of living pressures.

With global factors pushing up the cost of everyday essentials, Priory, which is actively recruiting new care workers, said it wanted to act wherever it could to mitigate rising costs. A full-time worker paid the new £9.90 hourly wage will receive well over £1,000 in additional wages over a year.

The rise also recognises and rewards Support Workers on the frontline who consistently deliver high-quality, compassionate care to some of the most vulnerable people in society, Priory, the UK’s leading independent mental healthcare and social care provider, said.

The rise took effect from Friday (July 1). It means Support Workers currently paid £9.50 per hour (National Living Wage for those over 23 years old), will see a boost in their income. This is in addition to the increase they received in April which saw the hourly rate rise from £8.91.

The April and July uplifts will result in a total increase of 11.1% for many of those working within Priory Adult Care.
