The Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) supporters challenging themselves this January

Supporters of Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) have been stepping into the New Year with purpose by taking part in the charity’s Run 31 challenge to help save lives.

To complete the Run 31 challenge participants were asked to run or walk 31 miles, or one mile a day, during January. Some chose to double or triple their impact by challenging themselves to run 62 or 93 miles, equivalent to two or three miles per day.

So far the 146 people taking part in the challenge have raised a total of £9,900 for KSS between them.

Christine Phillips from Rainham, Kent, said” I am taking part because, in November 2020, KSS saved my husband Giles’ life. He suffered an aortic dissection and was critically ill. He has had a long road to recovery but is doing really well. Coupled with other fundraisers that I have done for KSS with my choir I wanted to continue to raise awareness and vital funds for our KSS family.”

Andy Farrant, from Dorking, Surrey said: “I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Run 31 last year so it was an easy decision to sign up again this year. What has taken me by surprise is the quite amazing support for KSS from so many people agreeing to sponsor me. With well over £1,000 now raised I have decided to double my initial commitment and push to 62 miles this month. Knowing that in my small way I’m helping this incredible charity save lives every day is all the motivation I really need.”

Lola Inge, Running and Challenge Manager at KSS said: “We’re so grateful to our team of lifesavers that’ve taken on Run 31 this January. They’re all amazing. Every step they’ve taken has helped us save lives in our community.”

Although Run 31 is coming to an end, you can choose a challenge that’s right for you or even create your own challenge and support your local air ambulance by visiting the KSS challenge events page.
