While most people think they know the rules of bingo and what they need to play, a little knowledge goes a long way when it comes to bingo!

Just like you wouldn’t play poker without cards or chess without the pieces, you’ll need the right equipment before you host an event or play bingo with friends. To help you get off to a good start, we’ve broken down all the things you need to successfully play bingo below.

A number generator

Probably the most important aspect of bingo is having the ability to fairly pick numbers. During normal bingo games, this is done with a bingo ball machine filled with numbers from 0-90 for standard 90-ball bingo.

If you’re hosting a bingo night and don’t have one of these to hand, you can use an electronic number generator or an online number generator. Just make sure that it’s completely random so you don’t have disgruntled people complaining that you’ve fixed the game!

Bingo tickets and cards

Unlike the rest of the equipment, the bingo cards can only be used once, meaning you’ll need to provide enough for each player for every game you intend to play. You can print these out online or buy pre-made ones.

Around 78% of people care about sustainability and if you’re one of them, you can go paper- and use a bingo app if you prefer.  This means you don’t need paper versions of sheets. Players will need to download a bingo app and sign up to be able to play.

Doing it this way also saves you from buying lots of equipment that you may never use again.

Daubers

To stop any cheating (don’t we all have that friend…) you’ll need something to help mark off tickets when numbers are called. While normal pens are fine, to mimic the authentic feel of a bingo hall, you might want to go all out and invest in some daubers!

Prizes

Finally, it’s time to invest in a few prizes for the lucky winners. These don’t have to cost the earth – a packet of sweets, a box of chocolates or even a nice candle will suffice.

Final thoughts…

Organising a successful bingo event requires careful consideration to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants. However, by addressing the components mentioned above, you’ll be well-prepared to host a bingo event that leaves everyone eagerly anticipating the next round.
