Gurkha Nepalese Community Group Gains Housebuilder Support for Litter Picking
Barratt Homes has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Maidstone Gurkha Nepalese Community group to support its litter picking activity in Kent.
Formed in 2006, the Maidstone Gurkha Nepalese Community brings members together with the common goal of preserving and sharing the rich traditions of Gurkhas and Nepal.
It now has over 400 members and hosts regular events, activities, and community initiatives, to build stronger connections with local residents and to educate about Gurkha and Nepalese culture.
In June, the group launched a partnership with Maidstone Borough Council to undertake litter picking for the local community on the last Sunday of every month. This donation of high-vis PPE from Barratt Homes will help to ensure the safety of its volunteers when litter picking on the roadside and in busy areas.
The donation forms part of the housebuilder’s ongoing commitment to the environment and is the latest project established with a community group to protect local wildlife.
Mohan Tamang, Chairman of Maidstone Gurkha Nepalese Community, said: “We have a busy schedule of activity throughout the year and we are proud to have recently launched our partnership with Maidstone Borough Council to help keep our community clean. Our volunteers urgently needed high-vis protection and it is fantastic to now have our own branded equipment from Barratt Homes, which will also be used for all our events in future.”
Alex Dowling, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties, said: “The Poppies, our development in Aylesford, has strong links with the Gurkha Nepalese Community and we are pleased to support them with their fantastic volunteering work. Litter picking not only helps to create a clean community for residents to enjoy, it also crucially protects the health of local wildlife. We hope this PPE will be useful for the group for its busy activity throughout the rest of the year.”
Barratt Homes’ The Poppies development currently has a range of three-bedroom homes available with prices starting from £444,995.
