Bob Dylan’s limited edition print of ‘groundbreaking’ new painting arrives in Cambridge
Bob Dylan’s first limited-edition triptych print makes its debut at Castle Fine Art this month. ‘Sunset, Monument Valley’, recreated from an original artwork featured in the groundbreaking Retrospectrum touring museum exhibition, captures the acoustic American landscape seen in The Beaten Path series. Originally painted in acrylic on canvas, this exclusive hand-signed limited-edition artwork has been recreated in a silkscreen format.
Recreated by a specialist atelier team, this seminal new artwork is a painting comprised of three individual panels, the composition influenced by the real-life highway and rock features of Utah, where Dylan has toured and taken inspiration for his lyrics.
Measuring an impressive 108in x 49in, the artwork draws viewers’ eyes to the central panel, where Dylan has created a fiery glow. For the limited-edition print, these vibrant tones and light effects have been captured in full colour through the silkscreen process, which involves printing many layers of inks or paints through a fine mesh screen.
Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Group Managing Director at Castle Fine Art, comments:
“We are thrilled to have the ‘Sunset, Monument Valley’ artwork available in our galleries. What makes this piece so special, aside from the fact that it’s Bob Dylan’s first limited edition triptych, is how each of the triptych panels is printed independently. Each panel incorporates 78 layers of pigmented and acrylic resin ink and a further three layers of brushstroke texture and UV varnish to create a glossy effect. It’s an amazing addition to the Retrospectrum collection that our clients know and love.”
Retrospectrum first opened to the public at Modern Art Museum (MAM), Shanghai in 2019. Spanning six decades of Dylan’s artistic career, the touring exhibition unites Dylan’s visual series, along with archival material and brand-new paintings. Following its opening in Shanghai, the exhibition then toured the Today Art Museum in Beijing and the Jupiter Museum of Art in Shenzhen before launching at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami, where it stayed until April 2022.
The limited edition graphic will retail at £25,000 with all UK orders to be presented in museum-grade (UV, AR/99), non-reflective glass which provides full UV protection and anti-reflection for picture clarity. All UK orders will be hand-delivered by Castle Fine Art’s professional installation team, who are experts in handling prestigious artworks. International orders will be shipped in a bespoke, baton-suspended wooden crate that provides protection from external knocks and vibrations during the shipping process to ensure that the artwork is delivered in pristine condition.
