Family upsize home and swap urban streets for view of nature reserve

A family have swapped a built-up urban landscape for a view of swans on a lake after upsizing from a two-bedroom apartment to a four-bedroom detached house.

Kayleigh and Vikkiey Hearn have bought a Briar house type at Bovis Homes’ Beuley View location in Peters Village in Wouldham, Kent, after previously living in a bustling area of Woking in Surrey.

Kayleigh, 32, a programme manager, and Vikkiey, 30, a business delivery manager, got married last September and decided they needed to move to a bigger home.

“Our daughter, who is still at school, lives with us, so the two-bedroom apartment we were in was just not big enough and we knew would feel increasingly cramped as she got older and needed her own space,” said Vikkiey.

“We put our apartment up for sale and sold it within three weeks which enabled us to focus on where we would want to move to and what kind of house we would want to live in. The main criteria were to find a location in Kent nearer to our friends and Kayleigh’s parents, a separate downstairs study to use as a home office and at least three, but preferably, four bedrooms.

“We drew up a list of possible choices and took a day off work to visit six different developments, which included Beuley View. When we got there, we could see that it was in a fabulous location on the outskirts of Wouldham and after a chat with the sales advisor Georgina, we confirmed we could afford the Briar, which is the one we wanted when we searched online.

“The Briar home really took our eye and they happened to have a plot which had been built and was just being completed with the flooring being finished off. Georgina took us in for a look inside and we fell in love with the place.

“I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is a chronic pain condition, and I often have to use crutches to get about at home and a wheelchair when I am out and about. As we entered the Briar, I immediately noticed that the staircase was lovely and wide which meant that if I have to have a stairlift fitted in the future it will be much easier. There was a downstairs cloakroom too which meant that I would not have to keep negotiating stairs during the day.

“By the time we saw the separate study and the gorgeous kitchen/diner with bi-fold doors to the garden, we were hooked. We had to have the house.”

Vikkiey and Kayleigh were delighted to learn that Bovis Homes had already put flooring throughout the house. The couple were also able to take advantage of a stamp duty contribution offer. The family moved into their new spacious detached house in March.

“Our new home is absolutely perfect for us,” said Vikkiey. “Kayleigh and I both work from home at least three days a week and at the apartment, one of us set up in the living room and the other at a desk in our bedroom which was not ideal and meant we could never really switch off from work. Now, we use the study as our office where we get to share the same space and shut the door on work when the day is done.

“We adore our en suite bedroom and our daughter is very happy with her new bedroom which we have decorated using a gaming theme. One of the other bedrooms will be retained as guest room and the other will be a reading room with bookshelves but also a double futon, which can be used for extra bed space when people stay over.”

The couple have big plans for their back garden which include an entertainment area with barbecue, grass to play football on and a vegetable patch.

“The view from this house is beautiful,” said Vikkiey. “At the old place in Woking, all we got to see were other buildings, but now from the large bay window in our lounge we look out over a nature reserve with a lovely lake where swans and ducks gather. It is wonderful to see and never fails to make us smile. We can’t quite believe how lucky we are to have found this house.”

There is currently a selection of four-bedroom new homes available to reserve at Beuley View, with prices starting at £534,995. For more information visit bovishomes.co.uk.
